 Armed Forces Day

On August 31, 1949, Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of an Armed Forces Day to replace separate Army, Navy and Air Force Days. The single-day celebration stemmed from the unification of the Armed Forces under one department -- the Department of Defense.

Four Chaplains Ceremony held the 1st Sunday in February

Four U.S. Army Chaplains gave up their life jackets and prayed together when their transport ship, the SS Dorchester was torpedoed eighty miles south of Greenland on February 3, 1943.

 83rd Annual American Legion National Pilgrimage to the Tomb of Abraham Lincoln

The 83rd Annual American Legion National Pilgrimage to the Tomb of Abraham Lincoln will start in Springfield, Illinois, on Sunday - February 12, 2017.

Springfield Post #32, Auxiliary Unit #32 and Sons of The American Legion Squadron #32 extend a most cordial invitation to you to attend and participate.

Pearl Harbor Day 2016 

On Sunday morning, December 7, 1941, the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service attacked Naval Station Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, Hawaii, without warning and without a declaration of war, killing 2,403 American non-combatants, and injuring 1,178 others.

The attack sank two U.S. Navy battleships and damaged five others. It also damaged three cruisers, three destroyers, and one minelayer. Aircraft losses were 188 destroyed and 159 damaged.
